just like RuPaul

... i'm on the Catwalk!
i know i'm a total nerd, but i'm utterly freaking stoked.
i loved making that layout, i was totally inspired by nisa fiin
and her layout "me'isms"
and i am absolutely reveling in the validation of my peers.
getting comments on your work is so wonderful.
it so feeds that need to be seen, i think.
when we scrap, we say who we are- who we mean to be.
and when someone looks at our pages- really, really looks- they see us for real.
and that feels a little magical.
gee whiz, i love scrappin'.

flow

so now that my apartment is somewhat in order- at least enough so that i can clear a table- i have finally had some time and space to really, truly, for more than 10 minutes scrap. holy bananas, i forgot how much i love to do this exact form of art-making. i've missed it without even realizing how much i did. and now that i'm back, i'm friggin unstoppable. i've been psyched as a newbie... i wake up in the morning thinking about colors, layered. i've been up past 4 am the last 4 nights in a row. my fingernails are caked with ink and my hair hasn't been washed in 2 days.
and i'm just reveling in playing.
and of course, the first few things i made were kinda iffy. falling back into my old ruts. elements of cool, without actually hitting the target i was shooting for. it was almost like i had to make some crap before i could get to the good stuff. the experience kind of reminded me of when my writing teachers used to make us write for 10 mins in the beginning of class, then pull the one or two useable sentences from the gobbledygook we had to spew and throw away the rest.
so now i've had a few days back at the table under my belt. i've sought some inspo, played around with some mags adn some poems and some SiS. and i feel me coming back. i'm starting to like what i'm making. this first layout was seriously inspired by Me-isms by nisa fiin- those are some of my most compulsively uttered phrases, and i love the idea of capturing them. also, nisa's traced-squares idea was really fun as a format.
so, thanks for looking, folks. i'm gonna go do some more making of stuff. but, hey, if you're finding anything out there particularly inspiring these days, especially visually, will you link me up over here? i'm feeling seek-ish. thanks! love.

things i love about living here, part 1

i love that this is 14 steps outside my building.  that this is where we walk the dog at night.  that a walk on the water is always an option...........

i love that i have plenty of space to get messy and make art and that the kitties love it as much as i do.  tee hee.  check out chaz chillin on a stack of cardstock.  he loves to get in on the art-table action.  if i make him get off while i'm working, he feels left out and gets mad and beats up the rug..................

and then there's this, and possibly this most of all- i love that i have a home to decorate, nest in, make my own.  i love making little vignettes on shelves and dressers. i love that my new bed is going to be delivered between 3 and 5 tomorrow.  i love layering my tastes in this space....................

i love my home.

guess who's got the internet?

it's me, it's me.  new computer too.  my first mac.  her name is Mac.  she's very sleek.

i'm just back from a week working in the hamptons with my kidlets... that's where the photos are from.  i tell ya, if you gotta work, westhampton is a nice place to do it.  even folding laundry feels more special when you do it while overlooking the ocean.

so i am absolutely brimming with wonderful ways i can now participate in the world of internet creativity, scrappage, story-telling and design.  it's been more than four months since i've had regular internet access.  gmail has a minor heart attack every time i try to open my email, that's how bad my inbox is.    so i'm catching up slowly.

a request:
if you make a blog or a website, leave me a comment and give me your address... or even if you just have a favorite blog or two that you'd like to pass on.... i'm craving new bits of inspiration in scrappage, writing, design and life.  i've been so out of the loop the last few months, i'm really interested to see what's been catching folks' attention these days.  thank you in advance for the sharing of your inspo!
